Winner: BTPN Syariah
Established as a result of the conversion of PT Bank Sahabat Purba Danarta and the spin-off of BTPN’s Sharia Business Unit, BTPN Syariah was registered as the 12th Sharia Commercial Bank in Indonesia on 14 July 2014.
As the only bank in Indonesia that focuses on serving productive underprivileged families and with a potential target market of more than 40 million people, known as the ‘unbankable’ for their lack of financial track records and legal documentation, BTPN Syariah sees this niche as both a challenge and an opportunity. For this reason, the bank specifically designs its facilities and infrastructures to be different from conventional banking, to ensure effective and efficient products and services for the under-banked. In 2020, BTPN Syariah sought to adopt a new approach to introduce critical applications for its customers as part of its modernization initiative. The bank previously relied on buying suites of applications, but needed a more rapid way to address changing market requirements and demands while reducing costs.
The bank turned to Red Hat to build an agile platform to develop and deploy applications rapidly in an automated and secure manner. Using Red Hat OpenShift,Red Hat Ansible Tower andRed Hat OpenStack Platform, and Red Hat Middleware (Red Hat 3Scale API Management, Red Hat Process Automation Manager), BTPN Syariah was able to use enterprise-grade containerization and automation capabilities to speed up its application development and innovation.
Overall, the bank’s developers now have a solid foundation to adopt design thinking and agile methodology. Red Hat solutions, with the help of the Bank team’s capabilities, empowered the bank to build digital solutions and increase their speed of development by 70%. BTPN Syariah also rolled out services to deliver better banking experiences. The Bank’s digital solutions, which are now containerized, have led to a 25% increase in end-customer satisfaction, as reported by the Bank’s Field Officer teams. Ultimately, BTPN Syariah is well positioned to deliver on its mission of supporting the under-banked in order to strengthen financial participation in Indonesia’s fast-growing economy.
