With the theme “Expand Your Possibilities”, the Red Hat Forum APAC 2019 aims to inspire organizations to think beyond their normal day-to-day, and the challenges they face, and explore ways open source can help generate impactful innovations. One way of doing so is by honoring organizations that have demonstrated creative thinking, determined problem-solving and transformative uses of Red Hat technology through the 2019 Red Hat APAC Innovation Awards.

The winners were selected based on the impact of their Red Hat deployments on their business, industry and the community. They showcased how open source tools and culture were key to achieving efficiency, productivity, and agility – all of which can enable continuous innovation and help them create a flexible foundation that can meet an organization’s needs today and well into the future.

Category: Cloud Infrastructure

Winner: Vodafone Idea Ltd.

Vodafone Idea, India’s leading telecom service provider, has always been an early adopter of emerging technologies bringing world-class offerings to both its enterprise and retail customers. To continue being at the forefront of innovation, the organization adopted Red Hat OpenStack Platform, Red Hat Ceph Storage, Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform. With the largest distributed cloud deployment in the country, Vodafone Idea is transforming its distributed data centre network across 100 locations in India into a ‘Universal Cloud,’ where a shared software platform is capable of running multiple workloads e.g. Network, IT and third party applications across its distributed cloud locations. The provider is opening its network with standard API’s to facilitate third parties in accelerating cloud innovation, and reduce costs. The new network platform supports Vodafone Idea in optimising costs, accelerating consumption of cloud services and future proofing the network supporting enterprise digitization.

Categories: Digital Transformation, Modern Application Development

Winner: Infosys Limited (Infosys)

Infosys is an Indian multinational corporation that enables enterprises in more than 46 countries to navigate digital transformation. With more than three decades of experience in managing the systems and workings of global enterprises, the company’s internal IT services strive to embrace new technologies ahead of the curve to stay relevant. As part of this effort, Infosys wanted to enable a Platform-as-a-Service environment built on flexible open source technologies as part of its own digital transformation and cloud native development journey.

The company deployed Red Hat Cloud Suite, Red Hat Middleware, and Red Hat Ansible Automation to build next-generation digital capabilities like AI and Automation. This has helped the organization accelerate customer engagement across verticals by enhancing speed to market, consolidate the infrastructure across development centers, and reduce footprints in data centers by about 80%.

Categories: IT Optimization, Agile Integration

Winner: InterGlobe Aviation Ltd (Indigo Airline)

InterGlobe Aviation Ltd, popularly known as Indigo, is India’s largest passenger airline. The airline uses various Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) products specific to the airline industry, as well as for generic functions such as finance. Additionally, the company also has several self-developed applications for its specific requirements such as HR, crew training, catering menu, and more. Indigo implemented Red Hat Fuse and Red Hat Enterprise Linux to integrate these disparate applications and siloed data. Red Hat Consulting also collaborated with Indigo to help design the solution and provided hands-on expert support and training through the initial deployment. This resulted in improved business agility and speed to add new features, and reduced fuel costs.

The Agile Integration category recognizes organisations which have showcased the projects that best represent the value of agile integration. The Cloud Infrastructure category recognizes organizations that have successfully showcased a collaborative public, private, or open hybrid cloud deployment. The Digital Transformation category recognizes organizations that have successfully addressed IT challenges and delivered business value to effectively compete as a digital enterprise. The IT Optimization category recognizes organizations that have showcased the most outstanding transition from legacy IT to becoming a self-service leader and business partner in the digital world.

Winners will be recognized at each event in the 10-stop Red Hat Forum APAC series. Each event will feature a maximum of two winning projects, with both enterprise and government organizations are encouraged to participate.
